Because of Political Evacuation Insurance I Met a Hero
I don’t know what it is about me but strange things always happen to me. I am no Nancy Drew but I do manage to always run into unusual things and situations. Like the time I discovered that my brother’s girlfriend was also going out with another boy in town or the time when I accidentally saw a missing dog tied in the backyard of my next door neighbor. And now, I discovered that the father of the baby I was baby sitting was a former political prisoner in his native country.
It was just an accident that I have known about it. I overheard my bosses, the parents of the baby, discussing the pros and cons of getting political evacuation insurance. The concept was new to me so when the woman of the house and I were alone in the living room I politely asked her what it was. She explained it to me and that was when the subject of her husband being a political prisoner surfaced. She told me how hard their life was in their home country and I feel sorry for them. I know that I could never identify with their struggle but I really admired the way they stuck with their principles and the way they stood up for what is true regardless of the consequences. I guess it was strange because I didn’t know that I already had a personal encounter with a hero.
